Advertisement || I experienced as much in two days as I normally would in a whole week. I faced my fears while mountain biking, saw Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis from a bird’s-eye view and feasted like a queen. And now, now I’m back in Munich, trying to process all the impressions and experiences that came at me in such a whirlwind.
#1 Going upside down on the Skyswing
We’re early. The Skyswing at the Sommer Funpark at Möseralm is still motionless. The arm of the giant swing looms ominously overhead. I’m the only passenger and, without thinking twice, ask for “the full experience.” If you’re unsure, you can start more slowly and skip the flips. There are different intensity levels.
The swing starts moving. Gently at first. But soon I can feel it in my stomach. I love that feeling. My hands grip the safety bar. My hair is flying through the air and getting everywhere. It gets faster and faster. Wilder and wilder.
And suddenly I’m hanging upside down at the highest point. This isn’t a quick flip. We stop. We’re taking a break up here. Phew. Wow. My fear of heights slowly starts creeping in. But before it can take hold, we’re off again at full speed. That’s definitely used up my adrenaline allowance for the day.
#2 Walking around Högsee in Serfaus
Afterwards, I zip downhill on the Serfauser Sauser zipline. My next stop is Högsee in the Erlebnispark Hög. First, it’s time to relax. To bring my adrenaline levels back down, I take a stroll around the turquoise-blue lake. It’s a swimming oasis in the mountains. Pedal boats make their way towards little islands. Hammocks are strung up for relaxing, and there are sun loungers all along the shore too. We take a little time to unwind here. Now this feels like a holiday.
Before lunch, we enjoy the view from Zwölferkopf. From the panoramic platform, you can see the Zugspitze. On the other side, I can look across into Italy towards Ortler and make out the Swiss Alps on the horizon. The mountain panorama is also reflected in the mirrored surface of the Crystal Cube.
#3 Luxury lunch in the Crystal Cube
From the outside, the Crystal Cube at Zwölferkopf looks like nothing more than a mirrored cube. Only the door hints that there’s something inside. I use the mirrored surface for a quick selfie. Just then, the door opens, revealing a set table. Inside, the surface isn’t mirrored, so I have an unobstructed view outside. People are fixing their hair or posing for mirror selfies. They have no idea we can watch them from in here.
In complete privacy, without interruption, but with a sensational view, we enjoy the exclusive 4-course menu. Beef tartare, followed by Jerusalem artichoke soup and pork cheeks with different varieties of corn, tastes excellent and is wonderfully filling.
Luckily, there’s always a little room left in my dessert stomach. Because there are even two dishes. First, an ice cream and yogurt creation with flower pollen, followed by fruit with chocolate fondue. Just for me. Because I wrote here on the blog that I’m a chocolate lover. Someone was paying attention. That’s how you make Marlene happy. 🙂
#4 Learning to mountain bike at the bike park
The activity that gives me the most butterflies is mountain biking. I’m signed up for an introductory course at Bikepark Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis . Was that a good idea? After all, I can’t even ride down a forest road without getting scared. I tell the bike guide about my worries straight away. But he just grins and assures me we’ll manage.
All right then. Equipped with a suit of protective pads and a huge helmet, I hop onto the rental bike and immediately face my first problem: how do you change gears on this thing? I can almost hear the guide laughing. But we won’t need the gears anyway, he says. We’re only going downhill.
I’m completely focused as I navigate the first turns. My hands are gripping the handlebars. My body is tense. Or stiff. It’s hard to tell right now. It isn’t easy. But I’m riding. Turn after turn. And slowly getting used to this unfamiliar sport. Yes. I’m slow, but I make my way all the way down. Without getting off, without pushing. I think I deserve a pat on the back for that!
#5 Paragliding over Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis
At the end, a literal high point awaits me. We’re heading up into the sky. It’s time for a tandem paragliding flight. The pilot clips me in, double-checks all the safety equipment and counts down to zero. “Run!” is the command. I start running. The paraglider pulls from behind and suddenly rises into the air above us. My feet lose contact with the ground. And I take off.
And so we glide through the air. The wind rushes past my face and I have an incredible view into the distance. The weather could hardly be better. I take a few deep breaths and enjoy the speed and the fact that I get to be here. We soar through the air at speeds of up to 60 km/h. But that was far from all.
Ready? The pilot asks, but doesn’t give me time to answer. A sharp turn pushes me into my seat. Then we change direction. He sends us spinning around. At times we’re suddenly flying upside down. The canopy is below us. It’s absolutely crazy. And such a cool feeling. Better than a roller coaster!
Soon afterwards, I have solid ground beneath my feet again and try to get the adrenaline under control. That was exciting. Now I need to process it all. Not just the paragliding flight, but everything else too. My head is swimming with sensory overload. What would you have enjoyed most?
