I’m standing on a vast rocky plateau, turning in a full circle. All around me, countless famous Dolomite peaks rise into the sky. Directly in front of me is the Sellamassiv, with the Langkofel towering beside it, and I have a fantastic view of the famous Seceda and the steeply rising Geislerspitzen next to it. I can see it all from Col dala Pieres, near St. Christina in Gröden. And the best part? This hike in Südtirol can still be called a “hidden gem.”
Sudden fresh snow: A spectacular mountain hike in the Rosengarten in Trentino
I sink into the snow up to my knees, following in the mountain guide’s footsteps. He leads us through the snow-covered Rosengarten massif. I never imagined it would feel so wintry already. This was supposed to be an autumn hike with spectacular views. Instead, we’re making our way through a winter wonderland. It instantly adds a little extra sense of adventure.

Armed with cameras, tripods and lifestyle clothing, they head up to snap the perfect photo. But is a visit to the Seceda photo spot really worth it?

The Drei Zinnen are among the most imposing mountain formations in the Alps and a favorite photo subject for mountaineers and tourists alike. In winter, touring skis offer a chance to get particularly close to the striking rock towers. Far from ski lifts and tourist attractions, this relatively easy ski tour leads to a rocky viewpoint with a direct view of the Drei Zinnen. I want to do that too, I think to myself. No sooner said than done, …
One view to go, please: Hiking the Bindelweg
I bow before the Queen of the Dolomites. She rises before me in all her splendor. In summer especially, her glacier shines out from the mountains from miles away. I’m talking about the Marmolada. You rarely get as close to her as you do on the Bindelweg. I had already had the pleasure of glimpsing this impressive giant in winter, but I’d never spent so long hiking in her shadow.
