Oeschinensee is one of the larger mountain lakes in Switzerland. Above Kandersteg, at an altitude of 1.578 metres, the lake’s blue water glitters in the sun. The mountain lake is worth a trip, says "denon 6000" in a comment under my YouTube video. He also shares some hiking tips with me. Have you heard of the picturesque Oeschinensee?
denon 6000: recommends a visit to Oeschinensee in Switzerland. He says the lake is one of the most beautiful in the Alps. He particularly recommends the circular trail via Oberbärgli or the longer hike to Blümlisalphütte.
Getting to the UNESCO World Heritage Site
The Oeschinensee is part of the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site. The journey from Munich takes around 5:30 hours. From Bern, the route passes Lake Thun on the way to Kandersteg. Here, a gondola lift awaits visitors. If you take the gondola up, the lake is then a walk of just under 25 minutes away. It is surrounded by several mountains over three thousand metres high, including peaks such as Blüemlisalp and Oeschinenhorn.
Berghotel Oeschinensee on the lakeshore
You can also spend the night on the lakeshore. There you’ll find the Berghotel Oeschinensee, which now has a history spanning 5 generations. Guests have been welcomed here since 1892. Depending on the room category and time of year, prices range from 50 to 107 CHF per person, including breakfast.
Hiking tips around Oeschinensee
denon 6000 also has some hiking tips to share. In his opinion, the most recommended is the circular trail via Oberbärgli. The hike takes just under three hours, starts at the gondola’s upper station and follows the lakeshore for 8 kilometres, with an elevation gain of 450 metres. The hike to the Bluemlisalphütte is a little longer but just as special. It’s also worth stopping there for a bite to eat or even staying overnight.
