Blausee in Switzerland: A Must-See with Crystal-Clear Water

Blausee may not be particularly large, but it is still one of Switzerland’s best-known mountain lakes. That’s probably thanks in large part to its striking color. After all, Blausee’s name means “blue lake,” and it certainly lives up to it. That’s why it’s worth a visit, as “MizutayioGP” told me on YouTube. Have you heard of the fascinating Blausee?

MizutayioGP: recommends visiting Blausee in Switzerland.

The Blausee in the Bernese Oberland is one of Switzerland’s most popular excursion destinations. It is up to 12 meters deep, yet you can still see all the way to the bottom. The water is crystal clear because it is fed by underground springs. The fish beneath the surface look close enough to touch. The lake is in Blausee Nature Park, surrounded by cozy picnic spots, fire pits and lovely walking paths.

Getting to Blausee

The Blausee is near Kandersteg in Switzerland, just under 2 hours by car from Zurich. Remember that you need a motorway vignette in Switzerland. The parking lot is not far from the shore. You can also get there by public transport in theory, but it takes around 4 hours and you have to change three times. On the plus side, traveling this way is more environmentally friendly. 🙂

Staying at Hotel Blausee

You can also stay overnight at Blausee, at the aptly named Hotel Blausee. There are 17 rooms in total, including 3 chalet suites. There’s also a spa with a steam grotto and sauna where you can relax, and in the evening you can treat yourself to a 4-course meal at the restaurant. Fish lovers will feel especially at home here. Thanks to the hotel’s own trout farm, freshly caught fish is often on the menu.

Hiking Tips Around Blausee

An easy route that also makes a lovely Sunday stroll leads down from Kandersteg to Blausee. From the train station, it’s approximately 6 km on foot.
